How the calculation works
- 1
Social insurance 8.8%
On pay up to €5,742 a month (€68,904 a year). Your employer pays the same 8.8% on top of your salary.
- 2
GESY 2.65%
Your contribution to the national health system, on income up to €180,000 a year.
- 3
Tax-free €22,000
Social insurance and GESY come off before tax. The first €22,000 of the rest is tax-free from 2026.
- 4
Then 20% to 35%
20% to €32,000, 25% to €42,000, 30% to €72,000 and 35% above, each rate only on the part in its band.
Questions about pay and tax
How much salary is tax-free in Cyprus in 2026?
The first €22,000 a year of taxable income. Because social insurance and GESY are deducted first, with 12 salaries you pay no income tax up to about €2,070 gross a month, and with 13 salaries up to about €1,910.
What is deducted from my salary?
Social insurance 8.8% (on pay up to €5,742 a month), GESY 2.65%, and income tax if your taxable income is over €22,000 a year. Nothing else is deducted by law; anything more, such as a provident fund, is in your contract.
What changed with the 2026 tax reform?
The tax-free amount went up from €19,500 to €22,000, the bands were widened, 35% now starts at €72,000 instead of €60,000, and there are new deductions for children (from €1,000 per child per parent) and for rent or mortgage interest on your home (up to €2,000), within family income limits.
What is the 13th salary?
An extra month's pay, usually in December. It is not required by law for every job: it comes from your contract or a collective agreement (common in hotels, banks and the public sector). Check your contract and choose 12 or 13 in the calculator.
How much is the minimum wage after deductions?
From 1 January 2026 the national minimum wage is €979 gross a month when you are hired and €1,088 after six months with the same employer (hotel staff, domestic workers, agriculture and seafarers have their own rules). At €1,088 you pay no income tax; after social insurance and GESY about €963 a month reaches you.
What does the calculator not include?
The 20% and 50% exemptions for people who move to Cyprus for their first job here, provident funds, life insurance and other personal deductions. It is an estimate for a tax-resident employee, not tax advice: your payslip and an accountant have the final word.
