Seasonal and Summer Jobs in Cyprus
Where and when hotels, restaurants and beach bars in Cyprus hire for the season, what to ask about housing and pay, and how to avoid paying for a job.
Checked: Also in Ελληνικά, Русский
Tourism is one of the biggest employers in Cyprus. Hotels, restaurants, beach bars and tour companies take on extra staff for the season, which usually runs from spring to autumn.
When to look
Hiring for the summer usually starts in late winter and peaks in spring. The best positions, and those with staff housing, go first, so start early.
Where the work is
- Ayia Napa and Protaras: hotels, beach bars, restaurants, water sports.
- Paphos: large resorts and hotels.
- Limassol and Larnaca: city hotels, restaurants and cafes, many open all year.
Typical jobs
Waiters, bartenders, cooks and kitchen helpers, room attendants, receptionists, lifeguards, animators and drivers. Many need English; Greek, Russian or German help in some places.
Questions to ask before you accept
- The gross monthly pay and how many hours a week, and how overtime is paid.
- Is there staff housing? Is anything deducted for it or for meals?
- The start and end dates of the contract.
- Will you be registered with Social Insurance from the first day? The employer must do it within 7 days.
- Hotel staff have their own pay rules, so ask which rules apply to your contract.
From outside the EU
You need a work permit before you start, and the employer applies for it. Licensed employment agencies are not allowed to charge workers any fee: if someone asks you to pay for a job or a visa, walk away.
